“ We came with a big group of adults and children on a Sunday for the carvery roast. This was really good with a decent selection, very good quality for the price. The service was generally good throughout although the staff had to be apologetic about a fair few things. What holds this review back are those things; no baby change, limited drinks options (no pepsi or coke option on tap) and some menu items out of stock by lunch time on Sunday. ”

Tomahawk steaks 36oz. £35. - Black Friday ?! . ( pre-booked) .. Really good cuts of meat. Well cooked - Med. rare .. pleasantly lightly seasoned (not overly) ,nicely pink/ slightly bloody. With the normal trimmings of on vine toms, a flat mushroom & chips. Best to share though. They are huuuuge! . But "hey - you go girl" - if you feel you can eat one to yourself.. it is do-able , just ! Shout out to Sam working like an absolute demon front of house -,.. + Kara 'spinning plates' in the kitchen. Always smiling, always chatty. Oct '25 - wow ! .. just tried the new £20/ 3 course offer @The Sherwood ( Friday night - pleasantly busy, but not loud ) Farmhouse paté/Welsh Rarebit with mushroom (posh blue cheese on toast to you & I!) , Steak & mushroom suet pudding, -with homemade skin on chips + mushy or garden peas ( we had mushy - good choice) - a very tasty & meaty filling. 'Autumn crumble' avec le sauce anglais naturally + salted caramel brownie . Good sized portions, not massive , but more than enough, .. enough to suit a healthy appetite . Unrushed, + clean, light, friendly environment. Good home cooked fresh food ,well presented, but not ridiculous or overly fussy . Not trying to be something it's not. Doesn't take itself too seriously, but it's up there both Quality & presentation wise, imo. Recommended... Kitchen & Bar staff- professional & friendly. A fun place to go & eat anytime - not just for the specials boards .. (if you've not been ,you're missing out. Believe me !) Sept '25 Perfect ! It's like coming home .. smiley faces , happy staff, consistent good service , quality food . The annoying thing is NOT having something to moan about ... Brilliant . Consistent high quality food. Dec '24 - Food lovely ( sometimes a short wait for fresh food to be cooked) ie Roast spuds. Yorkshire's are a dream. Really soft pink roast beef. Turkey & pork. Extras are pigs in blankets or cauliflower cheese ( buy one get one free). Multiple Veg options. Real gravy. Staff are young, friendly ,helpful & accomodating. Dining areas clean ,light , & tables were being constantly cleaned ,not left dirty. Recommended for a Sunday carvery. Well done - ”

“ We had heard lots of good things about the food, so decided to book when we were back visiting my parents. We definitely were not disappointed. The beef was cooked perfectly and the range of veg was excellent and cooked very well. The best Yorkshire’s we’ve had at a carvery. Also as an extra you can get cauliflower cheese. We will definitely be back and you can even get a takeout which is a great idea. ”

“ My son booked the Sherwood for his partners birthday there was 23 of us and we were given the upstairs room. It was perfect for our needs as we had children with us and they were able to play without disturbing other customers. We all had the Sunday carvery the beef was perfectly pink and the veg was plentiful and beautifully cooked. The staff, especially the young lady who set up the room were so helpful and friendly she decorated the tables beautifully. It’s the first time I’ve visited the Sherwood and it won’t be the last. I believe you can take your own plates in and get a take away Sunday lunch I will definitely be doing that. Thank you all for a lovely afternoon. ”

“ I think we (3 generations of the Davies clan) were the 1st ‘official’ diners at this fantastic place in the heart of Retford. Cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful food, service, staff and friendly atmosphere. My steak was incredible and so were the pizzas I finished off. Don’t usually do dessert but wow!! We will be spreading the word far and wide. A really lovely evening. ”
